1. General information
The main objective of this subject is that the student acquires the adequate knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences that will allow them to know the morphology of the mouth of the child and adolescent and to establish a diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, follow-up and prevention of disorders or medical conditions that affect the oral region in the child and adolescent patient.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/). These subject identifies and describes both those factors and habits that favour positive health, as well as those that cause oral pathogenesis in children.
2. Learning results
-Be able to perform an oral examination in the paediatric patient
-Know the morphology of the child's and adolescent's mouth
-Be able to distinguish, understand, evaluate and interpret oral disorders in children and adolescents
-Know the most important systemic or non-systemic childhood pathologies that can affect a child and the oral symptoms they manifest
-Know the peculiarities in the treatment of the child, such as the psychological treatment, prescription of drugs, dental interventions or prevention of oral pathologies

Block 1 Introduction to Child and Adolescent Oral Medicine
Block 2 Children's oral structures. Basic semiology of the infant mouth
Block 3 The mouth and feeding of the child and adolescent
Block 4 Hereditary and developmental oral disorders
Block 5 Oral trauma and its treatment
Block 6 Oral impact and treatment of infectious, systemic, metabolic, immune, haematological, iatrogenic and rare diseases
Block 7 Iatrogenia and habits, early diagnosis and dental prevention
Block 8 Atypical swallowing and myofunctional therapy
4. Academic activities
Lectures 18 hours: theoretical-practical sessions where the content of the subject is presented.
Supervised work 10 h: production of a practice guide with the contents learned at the Health Center; and bibliographic review with the realization of a poster on topics related to the subject.
Individual practice, 7 hours, in paediatrics office of the Perpetuo Socorro Health Center, one morning. The student will perform a clinical examination of the mouth of the child and adolescent.
5. Assessment system
For the final grade of the subject, the following will be considered:
- Directed Work (20% of the final grade): 2 points out of 10): Bibliographic review and realization of a poster on topics related to the subject.
- Final theoretical written test (60% of the final grade): 6 points out of 10): multiple-choice test of 30 questions with 4 answers, only one valid, with no negative points for wrong answers. To pass the test the student must correctly answer 20 questions. The first 20 score 3 points and the remaining 10 score another 3 points. To pass the subject, it is mandatory to pass the test.
- Practical work (20% of the final grade): 2 points): Writing of a 4-5 page paper with the contents learned at the Health Center.
- Attendance to the practical classes is mandatory and attendance to the theoretical classes will be positively valued.
